Online genealogical resources
There is an increasing number
of online family history resources which will help you with your research. Many are free (to a certain point)
but there are others who are not entirely trustworthy.
Be careful about spending
money up front and remember that some sites will charge for information that you can find
for free in state archives and libraries.
The following are excellent
sites which will point you in many directions and help you narrow down your genealogical
research.
Coraweb This is an Australian
genealogical gateway site for tracing family history. It has over 1600 links and almost 50 different
categories.
Cyndi's
List Australia Possibly the largest genealogical gateway the web.
Almost 300,000 links. For non Australian information browse the Main Index.
Family Search
Family Search is the world's largest collection of family trees, genealogical records and resources. It is
run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Apart from the online resource the LDS also run
Family Search Centres in many Australian cities. Access is free and the assistance provided is free and
helpful.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints owns major sites like
Ancestry.com, RootsWeb, MyFamily.com etc.

Ancestry.com is a subscription-based genealogy research website with over
5 billion records online.

The majority of records are from the US, though records are being added for other
countries, such as Canada, the UK, and European countries.

Some records are free for anyone to access, but the majority are accessible only by paid
subscription.
